After trying Hook coffee subscription service, my second attempt was Perk Coffee. There is 50% off for first subscription order so i did it. And the price is even better than Hook Coffee, since the discount can be applied to max 500g of beans, you have choice of 500g/bag or 250g/bag*2. In short, only S$17.9 you can get 500g of beans! Such a good deal even the beans are not tasty i wouldn’t mind lol.
Today i am going to share my review on these two beans: Maverick and Altura. It turned out beyond my expectation. CHEAP CAN BE GOOD, no? But not both of them..please read my full review to find out which one got me addicted!
喝完四支Hook Coffee的豆子，對於第一次嘗試網上訂購豆子的我可以說是開了眼界，方便的服務、豆子的品質也很好。於是我迫不及待地想嘗試別家豆子，看看是否品質一樣令人讚賞。所以我的目光轉到perk coffee上，誰叫它們也有首購50%的折扣呢？（對我就是貪小便宜），比Hook coffee更優惠的是，首購的五折可用在兩包豆子的bundle上面，意思就是說你買500克的豆子（可選擇250g*2或500g*1），只要付S$17.9，超划算的是不是！

開箱 Unboxing
Since I only ordered two bags of the beans, the size of the package is just nice for my mailbox. For the sake of being green, Perk uses biodegradable bag for delivery, while the internal of the bag comes with the adhesive bubble wrap, which i am not sure if those are biodegradable too… The design is simple, not as cute as Hook Coffee, but minimalism is always nice. And i am going o throw it way anyway.
因為我只訂了兩包豆子，這個包裹剛好可以塞進我的郵箱，據Perk Coffee的袋子指出，這是生物可分解的，但是…它的內層黏了氣泡貼保護咖啡豆（從外觀可以看到那些小圓點就是了），那一層是否可以生物分解就不得而知了。簡單大方黑白兩色的設計，跟Hook coffee的童趣截然不同，不過這種極簡主義倒是顯得專業而且耐看。廢話不多說，重點是裡面的咖啡不是嗎？
Beside my coffee beans, there are few cards come with them. First is Coffee map with stickers, that you can mark the region once you try the beans from them, yes, need to be from Perk. Once you complete the 7 regions, you can mail the picture to them and get a special gift. Do come back later to see if I share what the special gift is. If I do, means their beans are really good that I am willing to taste all of them. But maybe just for the sake of curiosity, I will do that as well. Who know!
打開包裝，有幾張小卡掉了出來。一個是世界咖啡地圖，簡單介紹了不同地區的咖啡的風味：拉丁美洲屬巧克力、堅果味及焦糖調；非洲是果香、花香；亞洲是黑巧克力、大地及香草調。卡的下半部是七個圓圈，代表七個咖啡產區，如果喝齊這七個地區，拍照傳回Perk咖啡就可以得到一份小禮物。我蠻想看看它們的禮物是什麼，等我搜集到了再來分享吧！
Second, there is a welcome card with brew instruction, which is very considerate. Yea, there might be people just buying without knowing the basic, then the bean will be wasted. Another way to tell you that if you don’t feel coffee is good, maybe it’s your fault! Ha!
接下來，還有一張歡迎小卡，背面是手沖的簡單教學，從保存方式、研磨刻度指南、水粉比到咖啡的水溫都有簡單的說明，相當貼心。想當年我沖出第一杯咖啡的時候也不是以上全部都懂。少走點冤枉路總是好的。
Finally, those are my coffee beans! But my advice is not to send the magnet anymore ( the little black round thing in the bottom left of the photo), the suction power is very soft, I can’t fix anything onto my fridge by using it.
這就是全部的東西啦～喔對，還有一個吸力相當薄弱的perk磁鐵，頗雞肋的。建議他們可以省省不要製造垃圾。Be green!
Perk Coffee Review: Maverick
This blend come from three continents, South American, Asia and Africa. It’s the same region blend as Hook Coffee’s SpecuLose Your Mind. I drank Hook Coffee before i got the Perk’s order, i remember i like Speculose, but I am quite certain that i LOVE Maverick much more! The strong nutty and chocolaty flavor, with light lemon finishing is so amazing! I made white coffee ( espresso + milk, I don’t have nice milk frother so i just added hot milk) for many times, the creamy feeling just got me addictive.
I have finished this bean and move on to Altura, Cowspresso Brazil Sentos, and now Alchemist Dark Matter is awaiting. I can only order again maybe one month later. But I really can’t wait for tasting again!
Maverick是一支義式配方豆，來自三大洲：拉丁美洲、亞洲及南美洲。剛剛看了一下，跟Hook Coffee的SepcuLose your mind是一樣的國家：巴西、印尼及衣索比亞，當初我很愛SpecuLose，不過這支豆子更令我驚豔！濃厚的堅果、巧克力味，後面帶點檸檬的酸感，加上牛奶之後，每一口都有奶油的濃郁甜味，真是太好喝了！所以不意外地，這包豆子以極快的速度消耗完畢。但為了多方嘗試，接下來我買了Cowspresso的巴西豆，不是很愛，昨天又買了Alchemist的複方豆，回購這款豆還得等一等，但我真心等不及再喝一次了。
Perk Coffee Review: Altura
This bean came from Colombia with washed process. Colombia beans usually have balanced taste, with more fruity flavor.
Comparing to my full love to Maverick, i need to admit i didnt’ get the same passion for this bean. I can tasted the fruity pomegranate and a bit grape, not much honey or flora, but of course it could due to my stone tough. I have tried to grind them to different level, brewing with different water temperature. After 6 cups of it, i yet to fall in love with it. I think after finishing it I shall just move on, right? Like romance if you just don’t have chemistry with someone, time wouldn’t do the magic either 🙂
相較於我對Maverick的大愛，Altura就沒這麼令我驚奇了。這是一支哥倫比亞的水洗豆，帶有明顯的果酸，嘗試了幾種不同的沖煮方式都沒有一杯令我愛不釋手。嗯好，我跟這支豆沒緣份，下次可以直接跳過。
總結 Final Verdict
Perk coffee for sure offer fresh coffee beans, good quality and very reasonable price. I will definitely try other beans in the future. and of course, Maverick will have its space in my cabinet for a while until i find my next favorite. If you are a espresso lover, give it a try and let me know your opinion. Happy brewing!
